FAQs
What are Remi Night Guards made of?
Remi Custom Night Guards are made from patented, premium dental-grade materials. They’re completely BPA-free, phthalate-free, methyl methacrylate-free, acrylic-free, latex-free, gluten-free, and silicone-free.
Do I need top and bottom night guards? Can I get two of the same kind?
You only need to wear one – either a top or a bottom. Not both. We believe the best way to know your preference on top vs bottom guards is to try them both, which is why every customer gets a top and bottom guard by default. If you already know your preference, just let us know and we are happy to make you two of the same kind!
How do I take my Remi impressions?
Your Remi At-Home Impression Kit will include step-by-step instructions to make the process simple. In short, we send you impression trays and putty, you spread the putty in a tray, bite down for 4-5 minutes, and then send the impressions back to us with our pre-paid envelope. That’s it! Here is a video!
If I am a heavy grinder, can I get a thicker night guard?
Yes, you can choose between 1mm, 1.3mm, or 2mm thickness on the Online Customer Information Card when you scan the QR code included in your Remi At-Home Impression Kit.
That dull ache in your jaw when you wake up isn't just stiffness, it's the result of your jaw muscles working overtime while you sleep. Grinding and clenching put your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) under sustained pressure for hours at a time, the same way holding a fist clenched all night would leave your hand sore by morning. Over time that pressure can escalate from occasional soreness to chronic jaw pain, clicking, and limited range of motion. A custom night guard holds your jaw in a slightly more relaxed position, taking the strain off the joint and giving those muscles a chance to actually rest while you sleep.
Headache
If you're waking up with a headache that wasn't there when you went to bed, grinding is one of the most common and most overlooked causes. The same muscles that clench your jaw run up through your temples — sustained nighttime grinding keeps them contracted for hours, and by morning that tension has nowhere to go but your head. Many people spend years treating the headache without ever addressing the grinding that's causing it. A custom night guard reduces the clenching force that triggers that tension, so you wake up with a clearer head instead of reaching for the ibuprofen.
Indentations in Tongue
If you wake up and notice scalloped edges or ridges along the sides of your tongue, that's your body telling you something. Tongue indentations happen when you clench or grind at night, pressing your tongue hard against your teeth for hours without realizing it. A custom night guard creates a barrier that naturally reduces clenching force, and most people notice the indentations fade within a few weeks of consistent wear.
Teeth Sensitivity
If hot coffee, cold water, or even a breath of cool air makes you wince, worn enamel from nighttime grinding could be the reason. Every time you grind, you're wearing down the protective layer that keeps your nerve endings insulated. Unlike cavities or gum issues, grinding-related sensitivity affects multiple teeth at once, often in a pattern your dentist can spot immediately. A custom night guard absorbs that grinding force before it reaches your enamel, helping protect what's left and preventing things from getting worse.
Cracked / Worn Teeth
Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in your body, but it isn't designed to withstand the force of grinding night after night. Over time, that pressure creates micro-fractures, flattens the biting surface, and can cause visible cracks that your dentist will flag at your next visit. The frustrating part is that enamel doesn't grow back. Once it's gone, it's gone, and the restorative work to fix cracked or severely worn teeth is expensive. A custom night guard is a fraction of that cost and stops the damage before it becomes irreversible.
