Our teeth and our gums are highly important to our health and appearance. They determine how well we can chew our food, how good our hygiene is, and even how beautiful our smiles are. With that, practicing proper care for our teeth and gums is something that cannot be compromised.

Mornings and evenings are two key times of day that we need to pay special attention to when it comes to teeth and gums. After all, our teeth can undergo a lot within an entire day. This blog will cover some of the best tips, tricks, and practices that you can try out for your morning and evening dental routine. So read on to learn more about how you can better care for your pearly whites.

Brush Your Teeth Before Breakfast

Some people may feel confused about when they should brush their teeth in the morning. The best time to brush your teeth in the morning is before breakfast. Some may think, “Why would it be better if I’m probably going to get food in my teeth again from breakfast?” While this is true, brushing before eating in the morning offers more benefits in the long run. When people sleep throughout the night, the mouth accumulates a type of bacteria that causes bad breath and affects the teeth. Brushing the teeth before breakfast removes this bacteria and even adds a protective layer to your teeth, securing their safety against acidic food in meals.

Always Brush Before Bedtime

This is another practice that many people tend to neglect or forget. While it is understandable that many feel exhausted from a long day, leaving the teeth unbrushed during the evenings can result in damage or deterioration over time. Although our mouths are cleaned in the morning when we brush our teeth, they accumulate a new batch of plaque and bacteria throughout the day. This is a given, especially as we eat our meals. With that, you must never skip brushing your teeth in the evenings, as it cleanses your mouth before bedtime and keeps you fresh throughout the night.

Watch What You Eat

Some types of food contain certain ingredients or properties that can harm our teeth and gums. Some of the most common examples include breakfast food we all know and love, such as coffee, orange juice, and sugary meals. Acidic beverages like orange juice or coffee and sugary food like pancakes and syrup may cause the teeth to deteriorate and eventually develop cavities due to the acidity. Drinks like coffee or juice may also cause tooth discoloration, turning them into a slightly yellow or darker shade with repeated consumption. It is okay to indulge in your favorite sweets every once in a while, but consuming these items regularly can significantly impact your dental health.

Spot and Resolve Teeth Grinding

Teeth grinding is an issue that not many people realize they have, so there are times when they are unable to identify the problem ahead of time. However, it’s important to know if you are grinding your teeth as soon as possible, as it can result in major damage to the teeth. They can become much more sensitive and possibly damaged.

Since most individuals typically grind their teeth in their sleep, it’s almost impossible to know since they do it unconsciously. In this situation, the best thing to do is to get a custom mouth night guard. Use a custom mouth night guard to protect your teeth while they are in good condition.

Use Mouthwash

Is merely brushing your teeth enough to keep them clean or fresh? Yes and no. While using good quality fluoride toothpaste can help you clean your mouth and eliminate bacteria easily, mouthwash makes the process more convenient. This is because mouthwash can also serve as a substance that eliminates acid in the mouth. At the same time, its liquid form allows it to clean hard-to-treat or clean spots inside the mouth that a toothbrush cannot reach.

Take Your Time with Brushing

We understand that you have a busy day ahead of you or if you’re already aching to go to bed and sleep. However, it can help you tremendously if you brush your teeth with precision and care each time. Make sure you brush your teeth thoroughly, using the right procedure to ensure that no spec of bacteria is left behind. It’s always best to do this, even if you are in a rush to leave. Take your time brushing your teeth, as cleaning them hastily and in a rush can result in the teeth not being properly cleaned and collecting more plaque.

Mind Your Teeth

If you feel something is wrong with your teeth, then it is always best to check with your dentist immediately. Some dental issues may not be severe right away. However, they can develop over time, resulting in worse outcomes. So first, note which symptoms you’re feeling, where, when, and how it started. Then, visit the dentist and ask for some recommendations about how or what you can do to solve these issues.

Go to a Dentist Regularly

Lastly, go to the dentist regularly. Check-ups with your dentist are important, as they can spot any potential issuesthat must be resolved, even if you haven’t noticed them yet. Make it a habit to schedule an appointment with your dentist at least every six months, ensuring that your dental health is in good condition.

Conclusion

Make sure you never forget to perform and fulfill these practices during your mornings and evenings.
