The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) estimates that 8% of adults in America under 60 grind their teeth. That’s around 26 million people.

How to Tell if You Grind your Teeth at Night (Symptoms)
Although an overnight study in a sleep clinic, known as polysomnography, is the most conclusive way to diagnose sleep bruxism, you may not really need it. It’s expensive and time-consuming.
Instead, your dentist would usually tell you if you’re grinding or clenching your teeth at night just by looking at your teeth. We know our craft.
But you can also tell if you experience any of the following symptoms. Be honest with yourself... these are not normal; don’t ignore them.
Jaw Pain: Persistent discomfort in the jaw when you wake up.
Headaches: Frequent tension headaches, especially in the temples when you wake up.
Tooth Damage: Flattened, chipped, or loose teeth.
Worn Enamel: Exposed deeper layers of teeth.
Increased Sensitivity: Heightened sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods.
Ear Pain: Pain that feels like an earache.
Sleep Disruption: Disturbed sleep patterns.
Facial Pain: Soreness or pain in the face and neck.
Clicking Jaw: Clicking or popping sounds in the jaw joint.
